Portable ramps are a durable, low-cost alternative when a permanent ramp is not practical or not yet installed. Both of our rental styles work with manual wheelchairs, power chairs, scooters, and rollators.
Suitcase ramps fold in half down the center and carry by a handle, like luggage. They weigh 12 to 26 pounds, which means most people can lift one into a trunk without help. Usable width is 29.5 inches.
Best for a single step, a curb, a raised threshold, or loading into a minivan or SUV.
Tri-fold ramps fold twice for a shorter carry length at the longer sizes. They weigh 38 to 60 pounds and carry heavier loads, which suits power chairs and scooters. Usable width is 29.5 inches.
Best for multiple steps, porches, and any entry with a taller rise where extra ramp length is needed to keep the slope safe.
Rental rates are the same for every ramp in a size bracket. Rentals are cash or card. We do not bill insurance.

All suitcase and tri-fold ramps have a usable width of 29.5 inches. Threshold ramps are sold rather than rented — see wheelchair ramps for home and auto.
Ramp length is determined by rise, not by how many steps you have. Rise is the vertical distance from the lower surface to the top landing.
Use one foot of ramp length for every one inch of rise. That ratio produces a 4.8-degree incline, which is the 1:12 slope specified in the ADA accessibility guidelines. A 6-inch rise calls for a 6-foot ramp. A 10-inch rise calls for a 10-foot ramp.
Shorter ramps are steeper. A 6-inch rise on a 3-foot ramp is 9.6 degrees — roughly double the ADA slope. That is sometimes workable with an assistant present and a chair rated for it, but it is not the safe default.
Above roughly 10 inches of rise, no portable ramp in this line reaches a 1:12 slope. At that point the right conversation is about a modular or permanent ramp, and we can point you in that direction.

Check your wheelchair or scooter owner’s manual for the maximum incline the equipment is rated to climb. Power chairs and scooters have real limits, and exceeding them risks tipping or a stall partway up.
Measure your rise, note your equipment model, and call us at (310) 829-1777. We will match you to a length before you drive out. You are also welcome to bring the measurement into the showroom and roll a ramp out on the floor first.
Rent when the need has an end date — recovery from surgery or injury, a family member visiting for a few weeks, or a trial run before you commit to a permanent solution.
Buy when the access need is ongoing. At month-to-month rates, most customers who need a ramp longer than four to six months come out ahead purchasing.
Threshold ramps are purchase-only. These are the low-profile wedges that bridge a doorway sill, a sliding door track, or a single small step, sized for rises from 1 to 6 inches with a 34-inch usable width. Suitcase and tri-fold ramps are also available for purchase alongside the rental fleet.

Most customers pick up ramps at our West Los Angeles store at 12420 Santa Monica Blvd., at the corner of Centinela Avenue. Suitcase ramps fit in a car trunk. The longer tri-folds need an SUV, van, or truck bed.
We also deliver throughout Los Angeles County for a fee based on distance. Delivery runs Monday through Friday. Call ahead so we can confirm availability and schedule a window.
Wishing Well Medical has served the Westside since 1976. We are family owned, our showroom is fully stocked, and our staff will help you get the sizing right the first time.
Wishing Well Medical recommends measuring total rise rather than counting steps, since three steps usually create 21 to 24 inches of rise. A 10-foot tri-fold ramp is the longest portable option and produces a steeper slope than ADA 1:12 at that height. Call us at (310) 829-1777 to review your entry before you rent.
Wheelchair ramp rentals at Wishing Well Medical start at $45 per week or $80 per month for a suitcase ramp. Tri-fold ramps run $75 to $100 per week and $140 to $200 per month, depending on length. Call us at (310) 829-1777 to reserve one.
Portable wheelchair ramps from Wishing Well Medical work for van and SUV loading when the ramp length matches the vehicle’s load height. Suitcase ramps handle most minivan hatches and side doors. Bring your vehicle to our West Los Angeles showroom and we will check the fit before you rent.
Portable wheelchair ramps at Wishing Well Medical weigh between 12 and 60 pounds depending on length. Suitcase ramps from 2 to 5 feet weigh 12 to 26 pounds. Tri-fold ramps from 6 to 10 feet weigh 38 to 60 pounds. Weight matters if you plan to load the ramp in and out of a vehicle.
Wheelchair ramp rentals at Wishing Well Medical do not require a prescription. Prescription requirements apply only to oxygen and respiratory equipment. Bring a valid ID and a credit card to rent a ramp at our West Los Angeles store. Same-day pickup is available on most sizes.
Wheelchair ramps at Wishing Well Medical have a usable width of 29.5 inches for suitcase and tri-fold models. Threshold ramps have a usable width of 34 inches. Measure the total width of your wheelchair or scooter including the wheels before choosing a ramp.
