Five-in-One Interchangeable Design

The Sprague Rappaport ships with an accessory pouch that lets you reconfigure the stethoscope for different patients. It includes adult and pediatric diaphragms, a pediatric disc and diaphragm bell assembly, and spare eartips. You swap the pieces on the chestpiece to move between adult, pediatric, and bell configurations, so one instrument covers what would otherwise take several.

Dual-Head Chestpiece

The chestpiece has two sides — a diaphragm for higher-frequency sounds and a bell for lower-frequency sounds. You rotate the chestpiece to switch between them. The dual 22-inch PVC tubing carries sound on two separate channels, one to each ear.

Built to Last, Lifetime Parts

The chestpiece is chrome-plated zinc alloy, and the binaurals are chrome-plated brass. The tubing is thick-walled PVC. The stethoscope comes with a lifetime warranty and free replacement parts from the manufacturer, so you can replace wear items—ear tips and diaphragms—instead of buying a new stethoscope.

How It Compares to a Littmann

The main difference is the diaphragm. A Littmann uses a tunable diaphragm — you change frequency by changing how hard you press, without moving the chestpiece. The Sprague Rappaport is a traditional design — you physically rotate the chestpiece to switch between the bell and the diaphragm. The Littmann is lighter and has a single-piece sealed chestpiece; the Sprague trades that for interchangeable parts and a lower price. For a nursing student or a clinician who wants a capable, repairable dual-head without the Littmann price, the Sprague Rappaport is the practical choice. For critical-care auscultation, the Littmann Cardiology IV is the higher-end instrument.
