The Littmann Cardiology IV is a high-performance diagnostic stethoscope with a tunable diaphragm on both sides of the chestpiece and dual-lumen tubing. It works on adult and pediatric patients, carries a 7-year warranty, and is built for critical care, emergency, and cardiology settings. It replaces the Cardiology III

Both the adult and pediatric sides of the chestpiece have a tunable diaphragm. Light pressure brings out low-frequency sounds; firm pressure brings out high-frequency sounds. You change frequency by changing pressure, without lifting or flipping the chestpiece. The adult side gives better audibility of high-frequency sounds than the previous Cardiology model.
The tubing carries two separate sound paths inside a single tube, one to each ear. A traditional two-tube stethoscope lets the tubes rub against each other and adds noise; the single outer tube removes that. The next-generation tubing resists skin oils and alcohol and holds its shape after folding into a pocket.
The chalice-shaped chestpiece has a larger adult side (1.7″) and a smaller pediatric side (1.3″). The pediatric side converts to a traditional open bell — remove the single-piece diaphragm and fit the included non-chill bell sleeve. The pediatric side also reaches areas on an adult patient that the larger side cannot sit flat against.
The Cardiology IV is a career instrument. Littmann positions it for physicians, nurse practitioners, critical care and cardiac nurses, EMTs, and medical students who want one stethoscope to carry through training and practice. A clinician who only needs blood pressure and routine assessment can spend less on an entry-level model; this is the instrument for detailed auscultation.
